Urtica dioica – common stinging Nettle – also known as Nettle Leaf, is a herbaceous perennial in the Urticaceae family. Originally native to Europe, much of Asia and North Africa, it now grows abundantly throughout the world.
Nettle Leaf has long been understood to be a good-tasting, nutritious plant that has provided sustenance across many cultures, as a leaf vegetable or as a herbal tea.
Rich in iron, potassium, manganese and calcium, as well as vitamins A and C, nettle leaves are edible when young (soaked in water to remove the sting) and contain a high percentage of protein when dried.
