Our Story
Originally opened in 1985 by Mrs Penny Seeds, and Mrs Helen Adams, Appleseeds Health Store; a tiny store at the bottom of Market Street, became the go-to place in Ulverston for natural health and advice. A small shop, half the size of todays store, was the beginning of Appleseeds journey.
Maureen Knott (a regular customer) accepted an offer to join the crew in the early 90’s and so started her passion. Absorbing knowledge from the ladies, including herbal medicine, vitamins and mineral supplements and the treatment of ailments.
In 1996, Penny & Helen decided to move on and go their seperate ways. With the building next door coming up for sale, the Knott family (Maureen and husband Gavin) joined forces with the Fells (Val & Annette), bought the business and expanded.
Making the shop double the size and including therapy rooms, Appleseeds Health Store has grown, strength-by-strength.
Val and Annette have since moved on; Annette – a fitness insturctor, aromatherpist offering excellent therapeutic massage, and Val, a retired, dedicated gramdma.
25+ years on, with amazing support from Ulverston’s community we are still going strong. Appleseeds employs 8 members of staff all with special qualities and knowledge. Working together, we are committed to offering alternative health support and advice for all the family.
